Our lovely friend at One Trick Pony is hosting an artistic spectacular called Pick n Mix opening at Lala Orange on Wednesday 1st July from 6pm. The idea behind the exhibition is that 10 artists showcase a print each and then you can either choose 3 for $30 or 6 for $50! You see? It's a Pick n Mix but instead of lollies its pretty and very delicious art. The artists exhibiting on the night will be Jodee Knowles, Deathbot, Kate-Anna Williams, Jeff Hansen, Henry Luong, Yolanda Stapleton, Martin Wills, Gav Fielding, Fudge and Sarah Brown. David Walker: Anatomy of the object will reveal Walker’s profound fascination with the skeletal form as a vehicle for spatial and structural explorations, and his abiding commitment to find a form of expression born out of a sense of Australia. In this multi-disciplinary exhibition, artists consider how Perth’s famed mining boom and its resulting economic prosperity has impacted their lives, their practices, and their approach to being an artist in WA.

boom. will explore the artists’ response through fashion, sculpture, video works, striking architectural imaginings, photographs, large scale drawings and a series of performances.

boom. the exhibition, is also accompanied by a publication of the same name, in which documented collaborative and solo artworks are interspersed with fictional text.

The publication will be on sale from Spectrum throughout the exhibition, after which it will be available for purchase from selected outlets.

Check out ARTBAR - the new after-dark season of events inside the Art Gallery of Western Australia where music, comedy, food, wine & beer, not to mention stunning art, come together.

In ARTBAR Season One’s third event, on Thursday 20 August, ARIA award winning and critically acclaimed artist, Tim Rogers will perform an exclusive acoustic ARTBAR performance. Rogers is an instantly recognisable name earning critical acclaim for his unique Australian song writing which has endeared him to a whole generation.

The final performance, on Thursday 17 September, will feature award-winning sensation, Katie Noonan. Katie has a successful solo career encompassing opera, jazz, pop, rock and dance music and her band ‘George’ has previously won the best new artist ARIA award. At ARTBAR, Katie Noonan will be joined by jazz guitarist Stephen Magnusson, and saxophonist Zac Hurren, together forming the trio Elixir –three unique voices combining to create wonderful music.

Our short course is an introduction to the fun and glamorous world of burlesque! The course is all about having fun whilst discovering, exploring and drawing out your sexy, sensual inner burlesque queen, in a playful, safe and friendly environment!

Consisting of six 1-hour sessions over six weeks, you'll be introduced to the history of burlesque, You'll learn how to be a glamour queen, including what to wear, how to walk (even in sky-high heels!) and how to exude confidence and sex appeal! You'll explore the art of the tease-artiste - how to play with a strap, peel a glove or strip a stocking to tantalise an audience... or just that special someone! And of course, we'll cover all the fundamentals of burlesque dance! You'll shimmy, shake, undulate, bump, grind, wiggle, jiggle, twirl and swirl your way through the classic burlesque moves and some fun group choreography. It's dead easy and a fun low-impact workout too!
